you take me off and off another

you said you prefer foreign brands
he who puts on a suit you call him boss
he who puts on an apron you call him waiter
you always prefer monkeys in uniform

he takes you off and puts on another

today i wear a hot summer
today you wear a nation
today she wears a different age
today he wears one spectre after another

we keep on changing clothes clothes keep on changing us

unable to change the legal system
we can change the length of our skirts

changing clothes slowly changing clothes slowly
one fashion of clothing changes a dynasty
changing clothes slowly changing clothes slowly
one fashion of clothing changes a world

unable to change the stock market
we can change the shape of our lapel

we keep on changing clothes clothes keep on changing us

change chinese suits to western dresses
change factory maidens to office ladies
gather the vanished tastes of cigarettes and ashes
gather lonely hearts and autumns into pockets

she takes him off and puts on another

today you wear a new identity
you perm you hair into a new significance
a new body flaunts beneath the cheongsam
a new sowl crawls out of a new ear piercing

i take her off and put on another
